Queen Charlotte, the wife of the English King George III (1738-1820), was directly descended from Margarita de Castro y Sousa, a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House. It should be noted too that by the time Sir Ramsay was commissioned to do his first portrait of the Queen, he was already, by marriage, uncle to Dido Elizabeth Belle, the black grandniece of Lord Mansfield.
Made from the highest quality leather, the shoes are each handmade and lined with fine calfskin. The shoes are standard width and feature a hard, thick leather sole, perfect for use in camp or inside a fine home. The lachets should be secured with a buckle or a simple ribbon. Like the title says, I’m very happy with these shoes, they’re comfortable, and the red is a nice deep rich bright red.
