Small Onion Bottle

A smaller sized onion bottle in a dark olive green color. Glass onions were hand-blown glass bottles frequently used aboard sailing ships to hold wine or brandy. For increased stability on rough seas, the bottles were fashioned with a wide-bottom shape to prevent toppling, thus making the bottles look somewhat onion-shaped. Onion bottles were invented in the late 17th century. Ours is English in style and is c. 1720.

About 5" tall x 5" in diameter. Holds 20oz.
