The wider base of this mug gives it a very pleasing appearance. The beautiful rich black glaze makes the mug really stand out when displayed among my redware. Just a heads-up, however, and maybe this was just a fluke, but when I ran the mug through my dishwasher, it left a few very faint light streaks in the glaze, as if some color faded, so now I hand-wash. Also, when I reheated my coffee in the micro oven for only 15-20 seconds, the glaze on the handle crackled slightly. When the mug cooled, the crackle smoothed out but I won't be reheating in the future. In spite of the above-mentioned, I love these mugs. I purchased two of the 14 oz. size and plan to add to my collection! This repeat customer loves Samson Historical!
I love this mug so much that I am sorry to say, it has replaced my previous one. The overall appearance is typical of the 18th century tavern, such as I have seen in Williamsburg, Virginia. Iy keeps you tea hot for half an hour at least or cold in Summer on the porch. I purchased the 24 oz size and it is well worth the money spent for it.
