Over 200 years old, this black clay pipe has the date of 1796 in the mold of the stem. Black clay pipes are made from the same material as the white, the darkening happens in the firing process.

I am so pleased to own an original piece of history, my pipe. This pipe is beautiful and is going to do me well around the campfire. I am very pleased with my pipe, if you are a pipe smoke i recommend this highly or even if you collect antiques. Though 1796 is on the pipe makes even more collectable.
I LOVE this pipe! People ask about it whenever they see it.
I have had a positive experience with Samson and the purchase of a 1796 pipe. It was as described and will go nicely with a period pipe box. Since it is over 200 years it would have be nice to have the provenance, I think this would only enhance the 1796 pipes.
