Only Available at Colonial Market Days 2025
Learn not merely to decorate, but to claim ownership of your garments and linens in the custom of centuries past. Monograms, once the safeguard of trunks, laundries, and dowries, shall here be stitched anew by your own hand.
The workshop shall begin with a brief historical discourse on the origins and purpose of monograms, followed by instruction in the cross stitch, the most favored and durable method of the period. Then, participants shall set to work, forming a proper sewing circle, marking their chosen item with initials in red, black, or blue silk thread.
Materials shall be provided, including hoops, needles, linen, and threads, or one may purchase an item to monogram from the market. Participants are also welcome to bring their own garments from home — aprons, pockets, shifts, or shirts — to mark as they please.
All skill levels are welcome, from novice to needlewoman. Workshop length is approximately one hour, with time for questions and quiet stitchery.
The workshop shall take place on Sunday at the Registration Tent. Interested parties must register at the Samson Historical tent to secure their place, as space is limited and the opportunity most rare.
