Charlottes | 1760-1790 Leather Shoes

Queen Charlotte, the wife of the English King George III (1738-1820), was directly descended from Margarita de Castro y Sousa, a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House.  It should be noted too that by the time Sir Ramsay was commissioned to do his first portrait of the Queen, he was already, by marriage, uncle to Dido Elizabeth Belle, the black grandniece of Lord Mansfield.

Made from the highest quality leather, the shoes are each handmade and lined with fine calfskin. The shoes are standard width and feature a hard, thick leather sole, perfect for use in camp or inside a fine home. The lachets should be secured with a buckle or a simple ribbon. Buckles are sold separately and can be found here.

    Beautiful Craftsmanship

I just received my pair of Charlottes. They are beautiful! They feel well made and, even after a long work day, fit well. I can’t wait to wear these to a re-enactment!

I absolutely love my shoes. These are my first pair of reenacting shoes and am very excited to wear them. My husband has been a reenactor for 15+ years and I am just now easing my way into the hobby. He was quiet impressed with the quality for the price. Now if all the events would stop canceling here in North Carolina maybe I will get a chance to wear them.

    Great Quality Ladies Shoes

They are great shoes. Nice solid leather construction. Since they seem to be a b width shoes, I went a half size larger for a size 9. Worked out well the fit perfectly. I have both the Charlotte and the Dido Belles, very consistent quality and craftsmanship.

    Great Comfortable Shoe

I usually wear wides when it comes to shoes, so I actually ordered half a size up for this particular pair. It is a bit snug at first fit around the toe area (especially if you got a bunion), but nothing that wearing them around the house in stockings (and a good shoe stretcher) can't fix. I get the impression if you go up a full size, it'll be either too big in the toe area or at the shoe opening. They are indeed super comfortable to wear and the heel's not too high/not too low. I haven't tested them out on uneven terrain yet but didn't have any discomfort walking on pavement/hardwood floors. The color's more of an oxblood (almost like a rich burgundy brown tone) but the color looks amazing against any outfit. Definitely worth the price, and just need to save up to get the Dido Belle shoes next!
