The cocked hat, also referred to as a Tricorne or Tricorner hat was very popular with military and civilian men during the 1700's. The hat is unlined and does not have any trim, as depicted. These are made out of 100% real wool felt and each one is handmade at Samson Historical.
This weekend I got taken to ComicCon in NYC by my wife and her friend, both Outlander fanatics, and a photo op with Sam Heughen (Jamie Fraser), David Berry (Lord John Gray) and Duncan Lacroix (Murthagh Fitzgibbon). I wore the hat for the duration, of course, despite my wife thinking it's a bit out of place (well, it was the *only* one I saw at ComicCon, but trust me when I say that I did not feel one bit out to place. If you've been to one of these things you know what I mean). Anyway, the photo op went *really* fast but it lasted long enough for Sam Heughan to say to me as I stood next to him, "nice tricorner hat you've got there." Perhaps they get paid to say these things, but I also got many compliments throughout the day. Winter is coming, and I work in NYC, so I think I may want to start a trend. It's a hat, it's warm, and why not. I would love for this to catch on (and I'm sure you would too).
I am an 8th grade history teacher an my students and I love the replica! I can't wait for halloween where I get to play dead Paul Revere!
